Description:
The idea to create the museum in Halych appeared in 1998 during celebration of 1100-anniversary of the first written mentioning about the ancient city. During the 1998-2003 years the nature exhibits and collections were formed in the National Preserve “Ancient Halych”, in 2004 when the National Preserve was celebrating its 10th anniversary the exhibition “Nature of Halych Land” was opened in the museum “History of ancient Halych”. It showed types of nature complexes in 4 closed and one open dioramas with 199 exhibits (187 kinds of animals) and had 48 sq.m. In 2006 the museum was moved to the main building of the Halych national nature park. Today there are three exhibition halls with 80 sq.m of total area. Firstly you have to go below the arch which symbolizes the gate to “Nature Temple” and is a copy of the original gypsum arch in natural boundary Zamok near Podillya village. You find yourself in the kingdom of Nature when you enter into the light museum hall. There is the Halych national nature park in miniature with its unique and typical nature complexes in front of you represented in dioramas, stands and show-windows. The guests are familiarized with the history of nature preservation activities in the region, and creation of the Halych national nature park in 2004. The first room is devoted to the steppes which are rare ecosystems in Ivano-Frankivsk region existing only on the eastern part of the region. The one’s attention is attracted by the diorama of the natural boundary Kamin’ near the village Mezhygirtsi, by scare-crows of birds and mammals, photos and herbariums of the steppe plants. There are the paleontology and mineralogical collections here. Diorama of natural boundary “Pomiarki” represents of brown bear and forest cat (obtained at the end of XX cent.). The excursion continues in entomologist gallery. There are four large windows with the insects. The first – with different bright butterflies, and big collection of beetles. The next hall is devoted to the water-bog eco-systems. Here you can see the flora and fauna of the second biggest river in Ukraine – Dniester, Burshtyn water storage pool, fishponds. There are diorama with Dniester panorama, big collection of scare-crows of the birds and their nests with the eggs. The forest eco-system in three dioramas occupies the most important place in the museum. There is a big old oak with lots of hollows – multilevel house of forest animals: squirrels, dormouses, martens and bats; birds: night owl, woodpeckers; insects: beetles and wild bees. One of the dioramas demonstrates the summer forest with roe deers, badgers and birds which can be heard through the loud speakers. The other diorama with big wild boar and small pigling and birds represents the winter in nature boundary Verbivtsi. The specific feature of the museum is that some of its exhibits were collected at the times of count Volodymyr Didushytski – more than 150 years ago. The museum “Nature of Halych Land” is located on the convenient place – on the tourist road “Krylos village – Halych Castle – Halych city center” and attracts local inhabitants and guests. The museum is the important scientific basis for students of the educational institutions of nature direction and pupils of the secondary schools. The museum visitors here recognize the need to preserve the nature and to use prudently its resources. Working time: daily 9.00 – 16.00 The museum was included into the list of the objects, which have been monitored for the accessibility. Short description of the object accessibility: There is a place for car parking. Within the project “Open tourism: accessibility of the rest in Ivano-Frankivsk region for people with disabilities” the ramp was installed to the museum entrance and bell was placed on the wall to call the museum personnel. The museum doors are wide enough to enter on wheel-chair. The rooms are spacious and there are no thresholds between the museum halls.
